Burnley Homes to be Transformed
A local councillor has reported that the development of up to one hundred and eighteen new homes are to be built in Burnley Wood which they hope will transform the area.
An application for planning has been submitted to Burnley Council by Keepmoat Homes. They are suggesting that they demolish almost one hundred homes that have been vacant for a while in the vicinity of three different roads, namely Clarence Street, Oxford Road and Branch Road. They plan, after the current buildings have been knocked down to build apartments and houses in a variety of formations of one, two and three bedroomed homes.
A councillor of Burnley Wood, Karen Heseltine has stated that although initially the residents were slightly fearful of the suggested plans that they were now looking forward to new development and what it could bring to local area.
Originally, the developers had proposed that they build a major thoroughfare but the local residents were concerned that the road would become too congested as well as their concerns about how the new buildings would fit in with the rural surroundings. After reflection they took all the resident’s apprehensions into consideration and submitted amended plans. It is now suggested that the new developments are built with materials designed to fit in with other exiting structures and have made some changes to the route of the original thoroughfare.
After the changes were re-submitted, it became apparent that local opinion had done a complete turn around and they were in favour of the proposed development. Burnley Wood is not generally considered a nice area to reside in and is not top of the list for prospective buyers. The residents are hoping that if the new development plans are approved that the old housing currently standing will be replaced with higher quality homes and that in effect will bring to the area not only more businesses but also a better community environment.
